1st
Day
ARRIVAL IN CAGLIARI
Arrival is scheduled at Cagliari Airport, where as soon as you disembark you can head to the pick-up point for your rental car.
Once the formalities are complete and you've picked up your car, we'll head to the first stop on our tour: the island of Sant'Antioco , the only island in Europe with populations historically diverse in language, traditions, and customs.
The northern part, belonging to the municipality of Calasetta , is in fact inhabited by a population of Ligurian origin, culture, and dialect, called "tabarchina" which derives from the Ligurian colony, while in the central part of Sant'Antioco the Sardinian dialect is mostly spoken (don't be scared but understanding Tabarchino will be a mission impossible).
We recommend you don't miss the famous Byssus Museum, the only one on the island, which showcases the manufacturing art of weaving with byssus, a type of natural marine silk obtained from the filaments secreted by a species of mollusk.
Free lunch and then we move towards Calasetta : a village perched on a hill that slopes down to the port where a tower stands. You will have the opportunity to admire all the typical white buildings that blend perfectly with the blue of the sea and the green of the juniper trees, typical vegetation of the island.
We move to the hotel where, after checking in, we can take a splendid walk along the Spiaggia Grande, one of the most beautiful beaches in Calasetta .
Free dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
2nd
Day
CARLOFORTE
After breakfast at the hotel, we'll head to the port of Calasetta , where we'll leave our car and board the public ferry to the island of Carloforte . Carloforte still retains its Genoese roots, both in language and culture. This stunning island boasts characteristic, narrow, and colorful alleys.
Here in Carloforte, tuna reigns supreme, and is celebrated in a very famous annual festival: Il Girotonno, which celebrates a tradition centered on tuna fishermen, rais, and tuna fishermen.
The tuna fishermen begin with propitiatory prayers led by the Rais who guides them from his Musciara, or his boat.
From here follows the capture, slaughtering and processing according to artisanal methods that still take place today in the very few historic tuna fisheries still active.
Of course, we recommend you don't miss a delicious tuna-based lunch, so we recommend going to Tonno di Corsa —you'll be thrilled.
In the evening we will return with our ferry to Calasetta and head to the hotel.
Free dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
3rd
Day
TOWARDS CAGLIARI
Breakfast at the hotel and we set off towards Cagliari, the island's capital, following the entire coastal road and making stops that are essential for us.
We'll dedicate our first relaxing stop to Tuerredda Beach. You'll fall in love with it at first sight, and upon seeing it, you'll be able to confirm the unanimous thought: 'I don't remember anything like it!'
Tuerredda beach is a natural wonder, a 'pearl' reminiscent of Caribbean scenery, and has become an undisputed symbol of Sardinia, thanks to the intense blue of the water, the green of the shrubs, and the delicate gold of the fine sand (booking is essential for entry, as places are limited) .
Free lunch and in the early afternoon we continue our journey towards Santa Margherita di Pula with a stop in Nora : it was one of the first Phoenician cities in Sardinia (8th century BC), a trading hub, as well as a port with an enviable position, on the isthmus of Capo Pula, from which one could set sail in any wind, archaeological excavations have brought to light a Phoenician-Punic cemetery, with remains of temples and steles.
At the end of the visit, we continue towards Cagliari , where we will stay in a centrally located accommodation that will allow us to experience the scents, music, and magic of the splendid Sardinian capital.
Free dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
4th
Day
VISIT TO CAGLIARI
Breakfast at the hotel and a full day dedicated to visiting Cagliari : glimpses of historic neighborhoods overlooking the sea, shopping streets and panoramic terraces, including the inimitable bastion of Santa Croce , where you can spend romantic evenings after fiery sunsets.
Cagliari is the island's main and most populous city, and its four historic districts preserve millennia-old stories spanning from prehistory to the Savoy era.
The Castello district stands on the highest hill, characterised by ancient bastions, now terraces where the nightlife comes alive, and by picturesque streets overlooking noble residences: Palazzo Regio and Palazzo di Città , as well as the cathedral of Santa Maria .
For lunch, we recommend that you don't miss the delicious typical Cagliari dishes at Pane e Casu .
In the evening, return to the hotel, free dinner and overnight stay.
5th
Day
VILLASIMIUS
Breakfast at the hotel, and on this last day, we can't forget to stop on the opposite side of the island, in Villasimius : intense colors of the sea, clear and brilliant waters, granite rocks, delightful coves, long stretches of sand, lagoons and green hills, settings chosen for commercials, which instill unique emotions.
Must-see stops: Punta Molentis with the blue and turquoise of the sea, the bright white of the beach, dotted with pink on the shoreline, and the green of the Mediterranean scrub and then Torre delle Stelle where the the lights of the villas in the evening
they illuminate the cliff like a firmament and are reflected in the clear, placid sea, whose surf gently laps against two strips of soft, light sand.
The two white expanses separated by the scenic promontory are Cann'e Sisa and Genn'e Mari , the beaches of Torre delle Stelle.
We recommend a final relaxing lunch with a sandwich on the shore at one of the traditional kiosks. Afterwards, we'll return to Cagliari in time to complete the rental car return formalities and head back to our original location.
