Founded by the Genoese Doria family with the name Castelgenovese , Castelsardo still retains all its original characteristics today: narrow streets, stairways, underpasses where markets and typical craft shops open up.
You can visit the remains of the medieval Doria Castle , which houses the Museum of Mediterranean Weaving, or the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and the Cathedral of Sant'Antonio Abate.
In the evening, surrounded by the town's thousand lights, you can stroll from the port to the center, stopping at the town's bars.
Gulf of Asinara
Gulf of Asinara and tasting at the Badesi Winery
The Gulf of Asinara extends in north-western Sardinia from Capo Falcone to Capo Testa.
Miles of coastline boasting some of the most beautiful beaches in Northern Sardinia: Platamona , Stintino , La Marinedda , and Cala Li Cossi , nestled in a valley of granite and Mediterranean scrub in a breathtaking landscape.
And then, of course, the quintessential island on the northwest coast, Asinara . Once a penal colony, it's now a National Park.
In the afternoon, we set off independently towards Isola Rossa . The landscape is picture-perfect; houses and sea are separated by a long stretch of soft, pale-colored sand with golden highlights and pebbles near the shore. The sea will strike you with its emerald-green hues and transparency, with a shallow, sandy seabed in its first stretch. Opposite us, we'll find a small island of red rocks.
Thus we arrive in Badesi at the Li Duni Winery: We are at the gateway to Gallura where the sandy soil from granite disintegration, the proximity of the sea and the coastal dune, the centuries-old junipers and Mediterranean scrub, the long exposure to the sun and the natural nocturnal temperature range are characteristics that make the grapes grown in these soils rich in aromas and nuances.
We will begin our journey by visiting the estate, the vineyards, and the cellars, and they will tell us about the origins of these wineries and their production and winemaking methods.
At the end, we will enjoy a tasting of two wines from the cellar accompanied by typical Sardinian products.
